Detailed Workshop Programme

The Romanian Society for Radiotherapy and Medical Oncology invites you to participate in the workshop: Indications and Target Volumes in Breast Cancer Radiotherapy: When, Why, and How?

Educational concept

The workshop follows the clinical workflow of a radiation oncologist:
Should we irradiate? → Why should we irradiate? → Which volumes should be treated? → How should they be delineated?
The same clinical cases will be used throughout the workshop, from the initial vote to the tumour board, contouring session and final vote. This will allow participants to evaluate how the theoretical discussions and practical exercises influence their clinical decisions.

Learning objectives
By the end of the workshop, participants should be able to:
• select appropriate indications for radiotherapy following breast-conserving surgery or mastectomy;
• distinguish between whole-breast irradiation, partial-breast irradiation and omission of radiotherapy in selected patients;
• determine when a tumour-bed boost is indicated and accurately delineate the boost volume;
• establish indications for postmastectomy radiotherapy after upfront surgery and neoadjuvant systemic therapy;
• select regional nodal volumes according to the initial disease stage, pathological response and type of axillary surgery;
• understand the implications of sentinel lymph node biopsy, targeted axillary dissection and axillary lymph node dissection for radiotherapy planning;
• delineate the breast, tumour bed, chest wall and regional nodal clinical target volumes;
• recognise areas of uncertainty and justify individualised treatment decisions in a multidisciplinary setting.
